Annex Canada! Here's my letter to Congressman Kolbe!
Dear Congressman Kolbe:
I'm writing to you with an absolute zinger of an idea: Let's annex Canada!
As I'm sure you know, all Canadians are secretly (some overtly) jealous towards
the US. They are still gloating over Toronto winning the World Series even
though that was years ago. Quebec citizens are even worse, they are actually
stupid enough to claim to be Frenchmen of some sort. They constantly complain
about the US and the rest of Canada.
I think we (the US) should just annex Canada, especially Quebec where we
could enforce English Only laws. If we simply annexed Canada it would be
a win-win-win:
1. Canadians wouldn't have any reason to be jealous anymore because they
wouldn't exist.
2. We wouldn't have to listen to jealous anti-American comments any
longer.
3. The rest of the country (formerly known as Canada) wouldn't have to listen
to the constant complaints of psuedo-Frenchmen in Quebec or put up their
elitist French arrogance. All of the new citizens would be smart enough
to know not to put down the good ol' USA, not with all of us vintage citizens
armed to the teeth with automatic weapons and designer ammo.
There are additional bonuses. The former Canadians would get a flag that
is a tad more colorful, we could get rid of that silly maple leaf once and
for all (whoever came up with that flag lacked even a modicum of imagination).
Canadian football teams would have to start playing football by the real
rules and no more American football players would be able to defect to the
CFL.
Alaska would be physically joined to the rest of the United States.
Many former Canadians (those with money and jobs) could legitimately participate
in the best healthcare system in the world.
Current Americans could legitimately compete for job opportunities currently
afforded to current Canadians.
H1B IT developers could compete against even more Americans for job opportunities
previously unavailable to them.
Best of all, former Canadians would get to join us in participating in the
pinnacle of American culture, the WWF Smackdown.
It all sounds so wonderful Congressman Kolbe! Don't you agree?
Everybody wins and those who complain will just be sent to an internment
camp for "reconditioning" or declared an "enemy combatant" - Let Mr Ashcroft
deal with them.
Let's Annex Canada now!

Mark, really, you dissapoint me here BIG TIME..
all this time I thoughd you a sane and relatively integer person.. now it
turns out you got as much of a troll in you as this someone dude.. c'mon
man, make your apologies and just ignore the guy next time he wants to tick
you off (someone DID state somewhere that was his goal and he DOES make a
good job of it or so it seems)
as for your H1B discussion.. its not only a usa problem(I see similair
things on a smaller scale happening here in europe) and nothing to do with
IT.. I think it's a global-capitalism problem.. i'll give you one to ponder
about, last week some friends of mine came back from NY (this is holland
speaking btw) and brought me back an all-american-very-corny-stars'n'stripes
wallet... to my dissapointment it said on the inside "made in taiwan"..
I think (think mind you) that if we want to change the it-labour problems as
stated in this forum a wider angle is needed; there's enough unemployed
americans who'd LOVE to work in a factory which makes corny-wallets.. (or in
a usa-based nike factory).. if only to have a regular income with all the
benefits which go with that.. BUT
1. its not cost efficient.. its cheaper to make those in taiwan and ship
them to usa and STILL make about 200%+ profit
2. imagine what would happen to all those 3d world countries which are
exploited by these large corporations right now if those corporations would
be forced to plant their factories and find their workforce in western
countries..
Same goes for those H1B workers; its cheap, expendable.. and since managers
only have eyes for "cheap" and "fast" (as opposed to "good" or
"advanced")... well. you get the idea..
I wanted to bring this up for awhile now and hope I don't sound too much
like an idealist
I aknowledge the problem but I think to change all that there's a
fundamental change needed in the way modern capitalism works (Capitalism I
do not see as all bad mind you)..
just my couple'of'cents..

Patch,
If you found this offensive, I apologize. I tried to make the writing so
extreme and ludicrous that no one would take it seriously. Just an extreme
response to lumping all the citizens of one particular country into a bag
and tagging them with a label. That's all. I guess humor is very subjective.
Please note that I took great care to poke fun at both Americans and Canadians

no, not offensive, and truth told: i didn't really read it.. I was just
afraid that this would turn out into something i find in other newsgroups
when people start flaming each other over their own country's (supposed)
supermacy.. If this happens inside a thred I don't really care but since
this was a "top level" post I was shocked.. kindalike.. (especially since
I've seen you guys slaggin' each other off in the "open lettert to bush"
threat..)
sorry if I overreacted a bit.. (oooh.. all kindsa sorry's all over the
place)..
