i took 2 java courses about a year ago, maybe less. also dabble a bit in c++ occationally when I need to make a DLL for DBP. Did pascal in highschool, and currently completed a course in sql. current java related project im doing is an iTunes clone.
sounds cool, is that iTunes clone for your own use or are you doing it for work?

hello all...
I've been proramming Java for a little under 4 years now.
Besides Java, I also code in PHP, Perl and SQL.
At work I'm currently actively working with Struts, which isn't going as smoothly as I would like. But I'm off to a crash course next week, so should go better after...
At home, I'm working on a nice Swing application. This one is meant to be(come) a D20 Campaign Manager. (D20 being the most extensively used RPG rulesset atm).
Anyone interested in helping out, feel free to contact me... I can use all the help I can get, seeing that it's a massive undertaking for me alone...
not sure i can help, but id like to know ore about it, whats RPG?

RolePlayingGame, you know, Dungeons and Dragons.....
well, that's actually just the most famous one, there are plenty of others as well.
BUt I just aqcuired a project space at sourceforge and I'll be uploading what I have so far over the weekend, so I'll let you know when it's in there.
Whithout the books to the game you may not be the best person to help out, but if you want to, I can prolly provide them in PDF.
oh RPG, derr, i know them well, good on ya, im trying to make a VERY simple scrolling shooter game at the moment, its a good lerning curve for me. got any screen shots? :p

Like I said, it's all very early stage of development, but I'll make some screenies when I get home tonight...
I got it on my work laptop, but I can't really make them here ;)
I'm currently thinking of making the entire thing into an Applet, so I can have a nice central store for the data (mySql server on my website). Should be a lot cleaner to work with than the XML file I'm working with now.
sounds good, i think it would be good to get into the database side of java, the jdbc sounds like a nice "framework" to use.
Man, there is sooo much i want to do with java, so little time to do it

hehehe
I just uploaded the first set of sources into sourceforge, just look for d20cm.
Very limited funtionality atm though. Also experimented a little with mySql from java, think I got it nailed now. So I'll be adding mySql support this weekend. After that, things should go ahead a bit faster, since reading / writing from a database is much easier than reading / writing from xml documents.
I think ill get into java a bit more, i dont do much of it at work, i should be but there are alot of developers on this project and i get little to do...hehehe oh well.

The iTunes clone was mainly just for me. I started it before I knew a Windows version was already released back in January I think. After I finish that, I plan on adapting it for use with DVDs for my friend's huge selection of movies. If interested in what it looks like, you can see a picture of it on this forum thread:
iTunes clone (http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=41300&b=20)
there's a small "download" icon on the bottom right of my post. click that to see the picture
Oh, and I also got a game in the works; an RTS with an unknown theme as of yet coded with DBP (darkbasic professional)
Real Time Stategy huh? Me and my mate wanted to make one of them, we had all of these ideas, but the practicallity was that we were too lazy! :)

well if you got a theme in mind, i could use one. such as time period, different teams, what types of units can be built. It sounds easy, but you gotta be very careful to keep things even. It's very easy to offset the powers of one side.
well i was thinkin of just creating my own planet and races, that way you can do what you like to them and make them "even" alot easier. You have complete control of them, its like your god! :)

Well, we currently have 3 programmers on the D20 project already, but if you have nay prior experience with the D20 system, that wouold be much appreciated. SInce I'm the only one atm.
While the others are all good programmers, more experience with the system would help a lot with setting up the general framework and answering any questions of the other two.
