I am running off a linksys wireless g router and i was wondering what steps that i need to go through so that my sister's computer can connect to mine. im sure this is extremely vague so let me know if i can try and clear anything up

If both are connected to the same router, it's pretty simple.
All you need to do is make sure they are both in the same workgroup, have file and printersharing enabled, and you are sharing the drive / directory / printer you want to grant your sister access to.

well actually... to be more specific... she is in another state and i was trying to set a vent server. I dont think she can connect to me because of my router. i was wondering if there was a way i could get passed the IP change that the router does. Could you tell me how to do port forwarding or IP forwarding?

Well, I have a linksys router myself, and there should be a screen in the config somewhere that lets you do port forwarding.

(I think it's in a submenu called games and applications)

Here you can specify an incoming port and connect it to an ip address on your internal network.
This in effect means that any trafic (incoming) on that port will be redirected to that computer.
