COnvert into Oracle Date format

I want to convert a string containing XML Datetime format to Oracle's Date Datatype....please help..i tried various options with to_date and to_timestamp but without success...Oracle 9i..please help!!

Are you doing this directly through Oracle or are you using a development environment?

i am using a development environment...its based on JAVA...but never mind it was found that it was due to a bug in the development..it has been fixed...not yet released to us, but fixed...you know how developers are!!!
