Windows Defender - Is it really that good?

I was just browsing through my Add/remove Programs list this afternoon, and thought to myself - Do I really need Windows Defender?

I have used it, since it was released, and have NEVER found anything in the way of malicious bodies on my system whilst using it, but have nearly always found something, whilst using a different spyware/Virus-type program.

If I deleted it, would it really be missed? I have read in various PC magazines that it is "essential", but im not so sure personally...

What do you think? :D :mad:

Where did you get it? Did it come with your machine?

What anti-virus program are you using?

If you uninstalled it, and it caused an issue, do you have it on CD so that you could reinstall it?

it's micro$oft's ... means it's BAD ... means any sheap anti-anything will be better ...
I'm serious if you use any other proffesional anti-spyware feel safe and no need to have this tool in your system... if you don't wish to buy an anti-spyware you may use it as it's free for genuine windows versions ...
AND in both cases you should use a good anti-virus and firewall so maybe a complete anti-virus software which contais anti-spy and firewall will be better at all cases .

Actually it won't slow the PC too much ;
if you try a pc running windows defender only and another running a good anti-spyware only ... the second one will be slower .. but more protected and that's what we expect specially that we won't notice any different under a PC running 512 Kb memory ... and this is nothing nowadays ... so this is not so important the speed measure here beside the protection (I agree it's not good at all) ..
In fact .. I can see micro$oft making good updates and features for it so maybe sooner it will be a good software , I think like that ... but it is not right now.
