I am constantly amazed by the way the media responds to things and Jim Fawcette's
editiorial in the 4/5/00 DevX Hot Links is a perfect example.

Two months ago everyone was licking their chops in anticipation of the hammer
that was going to come down on Microsoft - now even Mr. Fawcette is sliding
toward "Oh poor little Microsodt; beat up by the Government" I get the idea
that we always favor the underdog and now that Gates has been slapped, we
are going to jump on that side of the fence.

Guys, let's face it, if Microsoft were an airline, and we flew it with the
consistency we do as users of the Windows OS, we'd all be dead!

That, to me is the essence of Microsoft's stranglehold on the market - god-awful
products that have more bugs when released than a bad motel bed! A monopoly
by any name is detrimental to industry and the computer industry is essential
to the world.

Let the govenment break up MS and set it where it needs to be: An OS design
company; a software development company and a Internet products company.

Just like the moaning that took place when the Bell was broken up - you'll
a heck of a lot better products from companies that compete, not dominate.

I'm not rubbing my hands with glee - I'm just grateful that we have a strong
central government that sometimes recognizes that companies like Microsoft
do tons more harm than good if not controlled.

Bob: I have generally found Microsoft products to be quite good. Which
Windows software have you found to be of higher quality than Microsoft's?

I used to be a hard-core Macintosh user. That OS crashed at least 20 times
more often than my NT system does (come to think of it, I had four crashes a
day on my Mac, while my NT system hasn't crashed in more than a month).
