From the same Microsoft press release that was quoted on the original coding
standards article:
(would anybody care to have to answer all of the wish-list e-mail Microsoft
gets??)
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
The most common standards-support request that we hear is for CSS1. The CSS1
working group has done a good job of creating a set of test cases that validate
compliance with the standard. Most other World Wide Web Consortium (W3C)
standards don't have such solid test suites -- so in many cases, compliance
is in the eye of the beholder. Microsoft started with CSS1 in Internet Explorer
3.x. Granted, that wasn't a very auspicious start, but it was a start. Internet
Explorer 4.0 did quite a bit better. We implemented about 90 percent of the
properties and values, and we passed the test suite at about 45 percent.
That still wasn't great, but it was world class at that time. Internet Explorer
5 cleaned up even more, and got to about 58 percent on the test suite. The
work we've done for Internet Explorer 5.5 gets us to about 80 percent of
the CSS1 test suite.
Don't like how Microsoft is progressing?? The go to work there... and fix
it yer own dang self. =o)
