Should I sue DEVX? I searched for **** and found 2 articles on this site!
So you tell me? Are YOU RESPONSIBLE FOR THAT? Are you going to apologize
and come up with a new system?

Can you tell me the name of the article or the URL?

Thanks

Heh, one of 'em was quoted, in part of course, in one of Patrick's editorials. <g>

Whoops! Scratch that. Looks like someone's already cancelled it.

Huh? Oh, I see: you're trying to equate DevX's responsbility for harm caused
by the appearance of the word "****" in our discussion groups--or anywhere
on DevX--with Microsoft's responsibility for harm caused by the appearance
of a VBS attachment to e-mails sent to millions of people last week. Therefore,
if I say that DevX shouldn't be in any way responsible for people's choice
of language in our discussion groups, Microsoft shouldn't be in any way responsible
for people's choice of VBScript files they create and e-mail to unsuspecting
users. Am I right?

Nice try, Chris, but I don't the analogy holds. See my response to Dan's
"Are you THAT DENSE???" posting to read more about my thoughts on where their
responsibility lies:
http://news.devx.com/cgi-bin/dnewsweb.exe?cmd=article&group=talk.editors.devx&item=247&utag=
As I point out there, Microsoft seems to feel the same way.

Regarding your decision to sue us because you went out of your way to find
the word "****" somewhere on our system and found a couple instances of it,
I dunno. I think there's a difference between searching for "****" on DevX
and receiving an unsolocited e-mail from DevX that says "****" in it. The
victims of the ILOVEYOU e-mail didn't get burned by going out of their way
to find malicious VBscript files to run for fun on their computers; it was
delivered to them and their systems' default settings helped the file do
its job.

By the way, if you want to sue someone, try your luck with Google.com. I
searched for "****" there and got this reply: "Google results 1-10 of about
199,999 for ****. Search took 0.04 seconds."

(Thanks to your own posting and my reply, we've increased the instances of
"****" on DevX. Congratulations.)

Oh we're taking about newsgroup postings not articles.

Chris - I hope your not advocating that we censor the newsgroups.

Hi Karl:

I'm not going to second guess the decision, but I'm surprised we care.

I was too. That puts you into the realm of liability to regulate all such speach.
Even AT&T was too smart to go there. ;-)

Karl/Patrick: I don't know who's responsible for canceling the post in
question, but for the record, I had nothing to do with it.

Hi Phil --

I never would've suspected you, but it's probably best to get that out, anyway. :-)

Karl: Looks like it wasn't canceled after all:

Hi Phil --

Hmmm, that would indicate the search engine burped, as I looked for one of those
words explicitly. ;-)

Thanks... Karl
