Greetings,
With the recent proliferation of VB Script viruses, I'm wondering if it's
not appropriate to have a new NG devoted to this topic. It would be nice to
have a source to find the latest info on these viruses, and how to repair
the damage they cause.
Additionally, some of the code in them is fairly innovative, and it would
also be interesting to analyze the code to see how it works and see how some
of the techniques might be used in legitimate applications.
On the other hand, I would not want to give out too much information to
wanna be hackers. The last thing I'd want is for some teenage dweeb to d/l
some vbscript code and e-mail it to the girl who just broke up with him and
cause another world wide disaster like we just saw.
Thoughts?

Robert,
I think that type of content would be innappropriate for these
newsgroups. If you are interested in learning how to protect yourself
from viruses like that ILY, or want to know more about security in
general you should subscribe to a security mailing list. Do a search
for security in your favorite search engine and you will see the many
hundreds (and thousands) of sources that already exist for that type
of information. Adding it to DevX would be, IMO, a mistake.
If you have a legitimate question regarding any of the "technologies"
exploited by the virus, feel free to ask, and I'm sure it will receive
adequate attention.

Robert: I think script virii is too narrow a topic to justify a dedicated
newsgroup, but I do think a discussion group on VBScript is a good idea, and
you could certainly discuss virii in such a group. I'll suggest the new
group to DevX' editors. Thanks!

Better make that a scripting newsgroup. There's the WSH, and
VBScript/JavaScript (and even Perl).
