What are the known methods to test the performance of an ASP-based web
sites? Are there tools to do this?

there are tools available, in fact MS has tools specifically for stress
testing asp, you want to start there, also the new ASP 3.0 book from wrox
press about to come out has an indepth chapter on testing for ASP.
