I need to setup a simple mailing list for someone. One way, no discussions. Users need to be able to subscribe/unsubscribe themselves. And a relatively easy administration module for adding users and sending mail to be used by novices.
The site's host is Interland on an NT account but they do supposedly have PHP access as well as CGI (although ASP would be good too). Any suggestions for either packages that are cheap/free or 3'rd party services that would host the list for them?
Thanks

I use Topica: http://www.topica.com. Works great, offers everything you describe.

The only problem with Topica is that they put ads into it. Also, I don't want anyone else to have access to the list of names. Even if I set that option on the topica list, Topica still might spam them.
I thought about yahoo but it has the same drawbacks plus you have to have a Yahoo userid.
Any idea if Topica has a commercial option with no ads?
Thanks

You didn't visit their site, did you? ;-)

Thanks!
I looked at the regular topica site but I must have missed any link to see if they had commercial level service. Their sales people sent me to the same place you did.
Although $24 a month seems steep. I've got a linux based host for a different site that's $3.95 a month and has list software.
But unfortunately I can't move this other client's site off their NT server.
The topica stuff looks good though so maybe they'll go for it anyway.

If your client signs up for a year, it's only $18/month. Still more than your Linux software, but not outrageous.
