opening word doc, excel file etc

    Hi,

I have a href link on my page. The href link needs to take me to a word doc
or a excel file or any other file that had been uploaded earlier. But I do
not want the user to goto the required file by clicking on the href tag.
I need to do some database update saying the user has viewed this file and
then take him to the file. For this, I take him to an intermediate page,
do the database update in the server side script and then try to redirect
the user to the file. This is not working. I keep getting the message that
'The page cannot be displayed'. This is not happening if the file is a text
file! Also, if the href tag is directly linked to the file, I am able to
    view or download the file.

Can someone show me some light?

    regards,
    sanjeev

    Hi sanjeev...

is it possible for u to submit the page and then redirect him to that page.(rather
than opening the new page). What error message does it exactly give.

    bye..
