date caculations

i'm doing this process over some date values..the function was written in VB 6 and i'm supposed to convert it so it can be used in a webapplication using the language VB...but the error says phrases like :
date1=date2-date3

or
if date1>365.....

r not possible..

how can i perform arithmetic operations over date values??
