Work at home options in IT field
I would like to know what are the options of working at home in It and who
are the companies that are willing to let you work from home. I am working
full time but I would like to work part time from Home. Please let me know
the companies that I can approach for this kind of work and what kind of
work are they looking for.
Thanks a million

Re: Work at home options in IT field
My impression is that most companies don't have a set policy about working
at home. Usually it's done on an individual basis.
The general guidelines that I've seen are it has to be the type of job that
doesn't require constant contact, AND there has to be a certain level of
trust between the employee and employer that the work will get done.
In the IT field, I think programming is probably the easiest job to do on
a work-at-home basis. Usually it can be done with little supervision, and
without constant interaction with co-workers.
If I were you, I'd apply for jobs like I'd normally do and when you are being
interviewed, ask them about work-at-home opportunities and see what they
say.
Another possibility if you are really gung-ho is to become a contractor and
offer to do work out of your house on a contract basis. I've seen a number
of web sites where you can actually "bid" on projects (I think DevX has a
link to one of them if I'm not mistaken). That could be an interesting route
if you are willing to forgo a steady paycheck.
