    ever changing technology

With this ever changing technology, one is scared of becoming obsolete after
couple of years. how do one cope with this? for example i am working on fortran
and c. now both these are outdated, and people with experience are paid less.
though i am learning new technologies like java and web stuff, it counts
only when one has a real time experience. how to handle this situation?
