framework for a Java Chat Server
Hi,
I have been thinking about how to start on a chat server that i have wanted to do for some time. I have done socket programming before and when i sat down to think about doing one for a chat server. I realised that the problem have become so much more interesting. There is a requirement to maintain clients socket and datastreams, the need to allow clients to chat in specific chatrooms, the multicast messages within a chat room, as well as efficiency issues.
any comments anyone?
cheers

Yep...more interesting than you would think, huh? ;-p
A good stepping stone would be http://www-105.ibm.com/developerwork...A?OpenDocument
It's a nice tutorial over simple chat servers...doesn't get into the advanced stuff, but is easily expandable with a little ingenuity. Good luck.
