why does netmenu open in new window?

1st time ive used a java applet and im stuck

Ive uploaded netmenu and everything works ok, however the links open a new window instead of opening the link in the existing site.
Why??

Ive tried many different drop down menus with java applets and javascript.
Every one opens the link in a new window instead of linking with the existing site.

this one does not appear to be terribly configurable, and is MEANT to open in new windows of IE.
