adding classes to the java library

I have JCreator, BlueJ, and NetBeans on my computer. I downloaded apache's Jakarta POI. I am trying to create a program that will change the format of a date in excel for 9000 cells. They are currently formatted like "60302" for June 3, 2002. I need to change them so that excel will recognize them. I have not been able to figure out how to add the new classes to the java library. I'm sure that this is an easy task but I can't figure it out.
java is the way to be

Well in Net beans you would mount the POI jar file in the filesystem view.

The key in all cases is getting the JAR added to the class path.

Let me know if I can be of more help
