HELP! Java plug-in works for some sites, but not all!

When I go to one of my car pages ( http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html ), the Java plug-in just works, but when I go to a site my work needs ( http://www.companies.govt.nz/pls/web/dbssiten.main - select current name search on the left menu), the Java plug-in fails and I get an error in the console:

If you haven't already, uninstall and then reinstall the Java Plug-in. Also, did this site once work for you and then suddenly stop ?

Previously we were using Windows 2000 with a version of Java unknown to me and all the sites worked, but now we have to use Windows XP Pro, we can only use Sun's Java, and the sites we need to work don't ...

Possibly incompatibilities generated from a hybrid version of Java that is not supported by the Sun version, but I'm only guessing ...
