Pointers needed for making pretty GUI

In my app I'm looking to create simple but profesional looking animations that appear when you place your cursor over a word. I'm getting to grips with the concept of mouse motion listeners but I have no idea how to go about the animation side of things. Any ideas to set me on my merry way would be much appriciated.

it really depends what container stores your words, and where you want the animations drawn..
