    Question Installation Issues

SO... I just reformatted my HD completely and went to reinstall java (jdk-1_5_0_01-windows-i586-p) and I have run into Error 1722 as it completing the installation. I checked the site and it said to simply try installing again. Did this and the same problem happened. I was told that I would have to scour my HD for certain files and delete them as they could not be removed through add/remove. Can anyone please help?

The exact error is... Error 1722. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact support personal or package vendor.

After many hours of searching I was able to fix the problem by changing the destination folder for the installation. The only plausible explanation I have for this is the registry somehow remembers either a faulty or previous install on the first destination folder.

An example (for jdk 1.5.0.01) would be instead of the default C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_01 would be to try C:\Java\jdk1.5.0_01

Just be sure to label the appropriate enviroment variable accordingly

Another horror story. I'm not sure how a registry entry
like that can survive a HD formatting, but if you wan't to
enjoy the complete bliss of frustration and confusion
you could contact MS support ......
