    Non Clustered Indexes

    Can somebody plz explain me what are the disadv of using too many non clustered indexes on a table,apart from slow search and memory wastage.
    i want the cons apart from these two.plz help me out.

    The primary disadvantage of excessive non-clustered indexes is slow insert and update performance, because the indexes must be updated.

    And the primary advantage is improved speed for SELECT:s, UPDATE:s and DELETE:s, if any of the indexes help the search. You milage may vary, as always.

    Also more disk usage (you mentioned memory, but I decided to throw this in anyway). This can be weighed against the number of rows you expect will be in the DB, and how often you will be using the field for searching.

    Also - if your searches will involve more than one column, the index(es) should be built accordingly. In other words, if the searches will be against CustomerNumber and InvoiceDate, you should have a single index that contains both fields, rather than two separate indexes for each field.
