Starting remote instance of SQL Server

I am trying to connect to an instance of SQL Server on a remote machine using SQLDMO in a C# application. If the SQL server is already running I have no problem connecting to it. If the server is not already running I want to be able to start it using SQLDMO's Start method. The problem is that when I try this, I get an "Access is denied" message. I get the same message if I try to start the remote MSSQL service using the NET command as well.

Is this problem occurring because I do not have permission to start a remote service? What options do I have to start a remote instance of SQL Server?

    Thanks in advance.

This sounds like a permissions issue. You will need to get your domain login added to the DB server. You will need permissions to start/stop (or control) services on the DB Server box. You can probably get that my being added to the "Power Users" group, but don't quote me on it.
