Career Advice (How to gain the required commercial experience).

I've recently embarked on a career change into the world of Software
    Development.
I have gained a Diploma in 'Pascal' and 'C', aswell as learning 'C++'
and 'VB'. My present studies are for a City & Guilds in Systems Analysis
    and Business Management.
I'm currently attempting to gain employment as a 'C/C++ Software Developer'
but, i'm having difficulties in gaining interviews due to my lack of commercial
experience(6 months). The replies that i receive from companies are, "Sorry
but you dont have the required experience".
Does anyone have advice on, how to gain the required experience, if
no companies are prepared to employ me in order to gain the required commercial
    experience?.

I have heard this problem many times and sometimes I or someone like me can
help. I place contract and direct hire positions with major firms. I cover
mostly the SE. Find a contract placement company in your area and join the
"broken field run" to experience. Be a generalist and have fun setting up
your future. If I can answer any question feel free to email me. jimsailing938@cs.com

Develop some beefy web apps or programs
in your spare time and contribute to
open source projects such as those on
    http://sourceforge.net/foundry/java/
