Monitor disk activity

Can someone please tell me how to monitor disk activity in Java?

Monitoring disk activity means to analyze which tasks are accessing the hard disk (either read or write access).

Java isn't necessarily really great at that but you'll basically have to use JNI to hook into the disk interface calls the way other monitors do. This will be easier in some OSs than others but as long as there's a defined interface you can do it.
