How do I increase Java Heap Space?

I've been trying to research this on my own but I'm looking for an answer in plain English, not in IBM or SUN gibberish that explains nothing.

Ideally, I'd like to set a maximum value that is permanent and not something that I have to type into the command line everytime I run a program.

I'm running v1.5 under Windows XP. Thanks!

Try putting your options in a JAVAARGS environment variable.
