Help with loading applet in a frame
Hi all - new here and wonder if you can assist.
I've created an applet for an image slideshow which I use in my header frame.
I have two further frames - one for the links on the left side of the page, and the other for the content of my site.
It's all working fine. My problem is that the applet is trying to load first and, since it's rather a large collection of images in a slide show, it's taking a while to load (and I'm not on dial up!).
My question is this .....
Is there any way of writing my index page so that the links and contents frames load first, leaving the header till last?
If you need to see the site it's at www.sea-spray.com
You will see from my code that I'm just a beginner with the whole web thing )
Thanks in advance for any assistance / advice.
When I have applets that use images I prefer to start the image load from the init()
method by launching a thread that handles the upload. I combine this with a boolean
(loadedOK) that is false until the last image is loaded. When all the images are loaded
the image loader thread finishes by setting loadedOK=true and issuing a repaint() for
In the applet's paint/update I check the loadedOK -flag, and until its true I just
write a string like "loading images, please wait....".
btw: your applet did ok in IE, but crashed In Opera ver.7.23
