Insert Last Modified Date of Excel Spreadsheet

Hi

I want to insert a Last Modified date into a section of my Homepage. The thing is that I dont want to display the Last Modified date of the Homepage itself but rather the Last Modified date of an xls spreadsheet that is opened from the site and stored in one of the sites folders.

Im new to JavaScript but Im ok inserting the Date Modified for current page but have no idea how to do it for a different page or xls.

Im just wondering why noone has replied to my question even tho quite a few people have viewed it.

Im curious - Is it a silly question? Is what Im trying to do not possible in JavaScript? Is it too difficult to do? Would just like to know..
