What kind of "scheduling algorithms" are you talking about? Do you have any specifications? Any requirements for data types?

The events or actions you are scheduling play a part in deciding how to approach your problem.

Many of these problems are best solved using graphs (like work scheduling, critical path, shortest path) - look at Sedgewick's "Algorithms in Java" Part 5. Some use priority queues to determine the next action (bank teller or airplane runway kind of scheduling) so your real work is adding new items with the proper priority and, if necessary, re-prioritizing [such as the approaching airplane which is running out of fuel needing to be moved forward in the runway use queue ahead of the planes waiting to take off].
