tabbing with in textbox using javascript for html

Assume a default date(mm/dd/yyyy) with in a textbox . On getting the focus to the textbox mm should be highlighted, when a month is replaced tab should move automatically to dd, similarly when dd is replaced yyyy should be hightlighted.
Can anyone suggest a javascript code to achieve this feature.
