Just installed JAVA on laptop, how to make it work?
I've just installed Java onto my laptop (the file I downloaded was jdk-1_5_0_09-windows-i586-p.exe from the Java website)
I've installed it now but when I try to run the command javac it says it's not a recognised command. Is there anything extra I have to do to fix this problem or am I just missing something obvious?
I hope it can be fixed because I'm trying to do my university coursework!!!
Thanks for any replys,
Go to Control Panel
Edit the path there.
There are two windows, and you have to add the java path into both of them.
hi, I tried to do that, and I created two variables, one on each of the windows and I entered C:\Program Files\Java with the variable name JAVA for each of them.
it still gives me the same error message. any ideas?
edit: oh forgot to say that I have several subfolders in the Java folder they are:
should I direct it to one of these folders instead?
