Connecting to SQL server through firewall

    Hello,

I'm not sure if my connection string is the problem or what. In our shop I had a different division set up a Web Server in our DMZ and a open port through the firewall. We had them open a non standard port for SQL Server (let's say we had them open 5555) and we modified our SQL server (SQL Server 2000) to listen on TCP/IP to 5555

The Application is written in ASP.Net 2.0 and the connection string is
    "Data Source=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx,5555;Initial Catalog=dbname;User ID=username;Password=*******;Network Library=dbmssocn"

Well we keep getting the following error:
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.)

    Facts:
    I can't connect using a test.udl file
I can ping the web server from the SQL Server
I can not ping the SQL Server from the Web Server

    So my questions:

Is my connection string good and if not what needs to change?

Do they need to open additional ports?

I've been googling and searching since 4:30pm yesterday with about 4 hrs of sleep so any help would be met with joy

    Nevermind, fixed it...

I had not opened the port on the SQL Servers own firewall
