I am new in this forum and would like to get some help if possible. I am looking for a packet sniffer source code in java or jpcap. Can anybody give me the link for that or would tell me where can I find it. I will appreciate quick reply.

my problem is that i want to build a packet sniffer for windows by making use of programming language java where in i would be using jpcap and winpcap(winpcap is packet capture library for windows)
now jpcap has some examples in it so can anybody give a stepwise procedure to build a packet sniffer
like 1) what code should i write for setting the network interface card in promiscuous mode
2)once that is done how do i make use of packet capture methods in jpcap
3) should i make use of jcpdump
to summarize i want source code of packet capturing and analysis
I would be really greatful if anybody gives me the solution to this.
Are you familiar with the Java Native Interface (JNI)? Given that and some sort of documentation for winpcap one would think it would be fairly straightforward. But then I wouldn't know.
I got this from a Google search for "java winpcap", so maybe you've already seen it. But just in case...
There is a winpcap FAQ, which says they "do not directly support java", but they also point to a wrapper, which sounds like they're doing exactly what you want.
I don't know whether they supply source code, but they do show samples on their site.
can anybody suggest some links wherein i can find the source code for building packet sniffer in java. other than sourceforge.net
i too doing project in Network Traffic Analysis ..

Just download it, unzip it and the source is in the JAR-files (JAR-files can be opened with a zip utility).

Come on people, if you can't navigate the SourceForge website then writing a packet sniffer is the least of your worries.
Goto this link that's been provided more than once:
Click that great big green button that says "Download Network Packet Capture Facility for Java".
Now look for the Type that says "Source". Windows users can download the gz file: "jpcap-0.01.16.tar.gz"
what do i need to make a sniffer in java?
i hava a task from my lecturer making a system that analyze the network security, is it right if i learn from sniffer system to understand network programming or is it a better way to accomplish my task. please give me some advise. thank you for your attention.
The tools talked about in this thread will lead you to the capture utilities you will need (and which can be implemented in your Java program), and some analysis tools. Also look at Wireshark (formerly known as Ethereal) for its very accomplished analysis tools and at its website for tutorials for using it and the analysis of packets.
