    ASP and ASP.NET

I am new to ASP and trying to understand basics.

Do people use ASP any more or only ASP.NET is being used now a days ?
If people use ASP , what version is more popular, ASP 2.0 or ASP 3.0 ?

I was going through ASP.NET tutorials. It was mentioned that ASP.NET is the next generation ASP but its not an upgradation of ASP. What does this mean ?

    Thanks

If you are developing new, always use the newest version possible.

ASP.net does not build on or extend ASP functionality, it is basically a new product with a similar name.
