how to make backup copy of my project

    Hi:
This should be simple but its not for me.

I want to make a backup of my project. I copied the entire contents of the file where its located (including the sln file) to a new folder. But when I open the new copy, in the property box, it shows the url as the old location. There is no option under the file menu to "save as" to create a new location.

How do I do this? I'm using Visual Studio 2008. (Its a website project)

Isn't there a way to do this without an additional tool?

It seems that every time I post a question about how to do something in Visual Studio, rather than providing guidance in how Visual Studio works, you people point to a third party tool or utility.

Does Devx no longer provide help with just Visual Studio for beginners?

    Hi Rachel,

Not sure if this will work for you or not as I use VB2008 as part of VS.

I copy the whole prooject directory/folder (the one that sontains the .sln file) and it's sub directories to a seperate drive (could use cd/dvd etc) then to restore it I just paste it over the original.

If I just want to make a quick backup (incase I am about to make a large change and don't want to much it up) I simply copy it and paste it back in the same directory. I end up with 'copy o...' if I need to restore it I delete the folder I originally copied and rename the copy reemoving the 'copy of'' from the name.

    Hope this helps,

    Steve.

Many times the questions about things we haven't actually done ourselves.

For instance, I have never, ever created a backup of any of my .NET projects to an actual folder. I have a DotNet local folder, and under that folder are all of my project folders.

I burn the entire DotNetFolder tree to CDs once a week. I have to make one copy for the first three weeks of the month, and two copies on the last week of the month.

One copy goes to my supervisor, and the second copy from the last week is stored offsite.
