Are your applications commerical or for in-house use only?

In the past I have used Excel for in house apps with a variety of different platforms.
My people like it a lot because after the reports is done, they can open up the spreadsheet and manipulate what is there before sending it out.
My suggestion would be to run that by your immediate peers and your customer base. If you already have Office in house, and most companies do, your report engine wouldn't cost you a dime more than you are already paying.
