    SQL Server died on me!

I have SQL Server 7 installed on one of my Win98 computers at home (just a
local server for testing). Everything's been working fine and dandy for
at least a year in that PC… no problems at all.

Just the other day, a data bound app I was testing couldn't connect to the
DB. I glanced down at the Service Manger and realized that the SQL Server
serviced was stopped. I shrugged my shoulders and restarted it. I saw the
little arrow turn green… then about 3 seconds later… it turns red again...
I can't get it to start. When I open Enterprise Manager and attempt to access
the server I get the following ridiculously vague error:

General Network Error. Check your network documentation.

I've tried everything. Since there's no critical DB's on the system, I even
tried completely uninstalling SQL Server and reinstalling it… but the problem
persists! I've never run into this before and I have no idea what to make
    of it.

    Any suggestions?
