Hello,
I am an IT student looking at focussing on Artificial Intelligence, and to pass my course I am required to code my own program; for this program I've chosen to create a program that allows the kitchen I work in to track what stock they have, and how much they have left.
For this I am going to input data into a spreadsheet, and create a program that allows you to select an item of stock from the spreadsheet, and then either add an amount of stock or retract stock. Would this be possible? and if so, could someone direct me in the correct direction. Although I'd like some help, I also want to work some of this out myself, so any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Would you be using a backend database to hold the actual inventory, or would you be doing all of this directly from one excel spreadsheet?

Would this be a single or multi user application? If multi user, how many computers would it be running on and what kind of network would the spreadsheet reside on?

Just from a single excel spreadsheet, and a single user.

Then this should be pretty simple. Do you have any experience in writing VBA code?

How many individual stock items do you need to keep track off?
What pieces of information do you need to store for each item?
Do you need to maintain a history or are you just interested in keeping a "right now only" inventory?

I'm in the process of learning programming as part of my course, and as such have linked a Microsoft Access database storing usernames to a log in screen, which I believe is vba?

Not too sure on the amount of items needed to be kept track of, but for certain will need product name, product code and supplier, and the amount in stock.
Then when stock is low, convert said information into a .txt document to allow for easy ordering.

I would store everything in the database, not just usernames.

Create other tables for your inventory, and use an Access Form as your front end. No need to get Excel involved at all.

Since it is just a single user app, you don't even have to worry about contention issues.
