Thanks, but I am not totally braindead. I was trying to make a point of
spelling out the words. This will give the impression of seriosness, which I
think most of the people in this newsgroup concider themselves as.

The first serious answer in this thread will prove me wrong.

I guess another question would be is there a such thing as web oriented software
engineering. I mean you don't hear the terms "batch oriented" software engineering
or windows, unix oriented software engineering?

I think software engineering is software engineering. The techniques and
principles outlined in software engineering apply to most application types.
Software is software, code is code and process is process. The way in which
web would differentiate would be in some of the requirements and design activities
(more external considerations?). However, the information architecture, software
code, implementation and testing all require the same things. You still need
a good test plan, requirements process, specification and design document.
You still need intellectual control and separation of concerns.

Ultimately, I think a term of web oriented software engineering may tend
to illustrate the nature of the medium and the shadow of the hype. Quite
possibly, the term would serve to hide the fact that web directed software
is no different in implementation than other types of software. That is,
it is code, it has to be robust and it must satisfy customer requirements.

I'm with Michael on this one. I don't create Web applications. I might create
an application that has an HTML UI. And if need be I might have to create
a 'Batch' [user] interface to it too.
