HLP: Recovery Lost Master.dat
Hey gang,
I appreaciate all the help before, but now I am looking for any tricks to
get back any of my data.
First, our tape back up of our Master.dat is corrupt. Can you believe it.
So I am wanting to know has anyone succesfully tricked SQL 6.5 show data
from a .dat file by recreating a new Master.dat file. I have tried a lot of
stuff, but I get the databse I am trying to get data from comming up
suspect.
I can care less about table structure, I have that script file. I have
actually already re-created the whole databse in 7.0. I have lost some
important history data and hours, and hours, of stored procedures.
At the minimum..please somebody tell me that I am srewed and to give up. I
am a programmer not a DBA!
Thanx

Re: HLP: Recovery Lost Master.dat
For SQL Server 6.5 right?
Use the setup program to recreate the Master database. There are two DISK
commands, DISK REINIT and DISK REFIT that can be used to reattach the devices
to the Master database and re-establish the data in the system tables. Check
the BOL for more info. There should be a topic on restoring the Master w/o
a backup.
Good luck!

Re: HLP: Recovery Lost Master.dat
One possible problem. If the tape version is bad, this one is probably bad,
too.
