    Linux and the Web

Hello: I have purchased your book, and await its arrival. This is nice,
and I like the way you provide a space for questions.

My question, does the move towards web application development fit with Linux,
such that ISP's begin to offer services for hosting Linux/Unix web applications?
Haven't stumbled across this topic much, but then I know nothing about this
    world, yet. Thanks, Tom

There are already a significant number of hosting services based on Linux.
Many of them not only offer web space, but also access to the virtual Apache
    server configuration.

Server side functionality including PHP (equivalent to ASP) and a database
are also often available, usually through MySQL, but some provide PostgreSQL
    as well.

Generally these hosting services are cheaper than the NT hosted solutions!

To find a list of ISPs that offer support for Linux web applications take a
look at the PHP Home Page at www.php.net. The list is at
http://hosts.php.net/ and today contains 908 hosting services.
