will newer version of SQL solve problems

I have SQL 7, and using ColdFusion to do the coding. Problem is that all
of my codes are based on ACCESS 97, and SQL 7 doesnt like them. I was wondering
if I upgrade my SQL sever, will these problems go away.

such as: when do a query: I cant use {}, distinctrow, or
    "select distinct xyz, abc, ddd
    where tablename"

    thanks
