Jobs in DB field.
Hi everyone....
What kind of jobs exist in Database Field? I know this is kind of strange
question.... But I am a student, and I learned **** lots of theory about
databases, and the only job category I know is DBA.
Are there any other usages of DBs knowledge and experience except actually
designing and building the databases???
Thank you in advance.

Re: Jobs in DB field.
I would say typically (unless you are in a large IT shop) you are either an
operational DBA meaning you manage the operation of the database servers or
you are a developer that performs database - specific work, such as modeling
and/or SQL coding. The latter typically is used in conjunction (again,
unless you are in a large IT department) with another tools, like VB or Cold
Fusion or ASP... The former is sometimes associated with Network Operations
or Unix Ops, etc.

Re: Jobs in DB field.
A DBAs job is split up into multiple categories; design, security and maintenance.
Network admins manage servers and have nothing to do with databases other
than making sure the services are running. DBAs are an invaluable piece
to application development. Its one thing to know VB and how to write queries,
but its a whole different ball game designing the structure of a database
to store information, manage the security to that data and making sure that
the data is accurate and 'clean' (data integrity).
I'm currently designing a course management system and they pretty much handed
me the entire project. I would love to have a DBA on-site to design the
database, the security layer and the data access layer (all database driven).
Even the application interface will be database driven. You should give
me a call if you need a job, I might be able to get you in the front door.
