Computer & User Authentication
I need to know if there's anyway to identify a particular computer using servlets.
Let me give an example: Say I've a servlet that I've written to store and
maintain certain information for myself and a few co-workers. The stored
information is to be shared and should only be accessed by certain recognised
computers, that is, computers that are designated as work computers. So computer
authentication becomes another layer of authentication, aside from the usual
username and password. This is to prevent outsiders or unscrupulous co-workers
from accessing the information from anywhere else. The servlet would be doing
this sort of authentication. The question is, whether it's possible to recognise
a personal computer across the internet.
If it's not possible at all, then could someone suggest a solution to this?
I really need to identify where a particular request is coming from as I
must reject requests that come from locations that should not have access.
