MsSearch-service bogs down server
- On this server under SQL 7.0 we had fulltext-indexing working properly
- Then, in addition to SQL7 we then installed SQL2000 on this machine. Since
then, we have the following problem:
When MsSearch-Service (MsSearch.exe) is running, over a very (very!) long
time it mostly uses 99 CPU (in 2 days, a total CPU time of about 30h), even
if it does _not_ index anything. The server looks and feels like dead!
We later deinstalled SQL7 and installed a second instance of SQL2000:
nothing changed.
MsSearch-Service cannot be stopped other than rebooting the server.
In TechNet we found no hint.
Kindly yours

Re: MsSearch-service bogs down server
Boy, you DevX boys are giving me some pretty brutal ones, aren't you?
My experience has been that SQL Server 2000 is *less* resource intensive for
full text operations than 7.0 was. That said, it's entirely possible that
some mix of versions really gets things sideways.
I'm afraid that I'll have to research this one some - I've not heard of this
problem before. If you e-mail me directly I'll look into it farther (be
prepared for it to take several days - and I can't promise I'll be able to
find something on it).
