At the current speed of technology, anything you made yesterday as in "We
are creating tomorrow's legacy systems today."

Mainframe (COBOL, etc) systems, sometimes also Dec, AS400 and Unix, are usually
refered to as Legacy systems. Systems that aren't written/designed to integrate
easily into distributed computing systems. This could include now include
some client\server systems. Depends on who you talk to.

What is the most popular way of tying Legacy(COBOL,CICS,IDMS.IMS,etc) to
    Java or JavaBeans.
I am an unemployed mainframe programmer who wishes to start learning

a new language and also doesn't have a lot of money to make mistakes
    with.
Any and all advice will be appreciated.
I just can't seem to get any information-it's almost like nobody ever
    heard of this.
