Send file from one machine to another

What is the best way to send a text file from one machine to another?

Will it be efficient to send a string through RMI to the middle tier on the
server and compose a file from it?

Also how can I execute a Java App at a certain time without human intervention
and other apps? Is there a way?

depends on the size of the text file, for simple strings try sockets.
thinking in java has some very good examples. www.bruceeckel.com
