making java program into exe file???

    Hi:

I have written up a java program and would like to turn it into a executable
file so other people can use it without jdk install on their computer. Is
there a way of doing it? I know it can be done in VB, so just wondering.

    Thanks in advance

There are ways of doing this, I hear. But your comparison with VB is
inaccurate: compiling a VB program creates an EXE file, but to use it
somewhere else you have to install the VB runtime, which is about 1.5
megabytes -- comparable to the size of Java's runtime environment (JRE).

    Hi:

Thanks for the reponse, but what are the ways to do that, do you know if
I can find it anywhere on the web?

    Thank you

    Herman

The obvious way is to use a java compiler that can generate executables for
    the OS you require.

Visual Cafe from Webgain does this for windows I think.

The Free Software Foundation is developing a Java compiler (I think it's
called guava). I think it's still in it's infancy, so your probably still
better of with something like the above.

Check out the Microsoft SDK for Java, specifically the jexegen utility.

Asymetrix developed technology to do that for their SuperCede product. They
were acquired, and the compiler portion became a different company. I don't
remember the name, but I do remember it was VERY expensive. I haven't heard
anything about them since SuperCede went down the tube. You'll have to search
the web for anymore specifics than this.

If it is a server application, Tower Technologies (www.towerj.com) has tools
and a JVM to support this
