    Compiling help...

I am obviously just starting teaching myself java. I am running off of Windows
ME. I have tried setting my path in command promt to the c:jdk1.3\bin, and
the c:jdk1.3\lib\jar.tools, and in the environment variable using autoexec.bat
file. But no matter what I do I get a bad command or file name. Perhaps
I am doing it all worng. Think any of you can give me a hand telling me
what I need to do or what I could be doing wrong. Thanks in advance
