Why do programs written and compiled by javac in JDK1.0.2 do not run after creation of classes

I am working on the SunSolaris System which has JDK 1.0.2
My problem is that after compiling the filename.class file using javac I
cannot execute my program using the command
java filename

I am new to Sun Sparc workstations. I have experience in Linux but I am having
problem with JDK 1.0.2
